Suffolk University to Host Entrepreneurship Trade Show
Have you ever wanted to start a business but had no idea where you would get the money to fund it? Suffolk University’s Sawyer Business School wants to help Sawyer students who have that very problem. This week, they are offering an Entrepreneurship Trade show to help connect students and alumni to angel investors. Students, faculty, alumni, and friends will all have the chance to attend the show and vote for their favorite idea.
Suffolk community members will have the chance to pitch their ideas to two angel investors at the show. The first is Roman Wunderlich, a Suffolk University alumnus, who founded his own small angel investment fund after founding several startup organizations, serving as a sales director for a sports agency, and assisting with the sale of a home improvement chain. The second is James D. Tollman, who is an angel investor in several different fields, in addition to a managing partner at Tollman Capital Partners and the founder and CEO of a hospitalist firm.
Wunderlich advises students to carefully craft their pitches, avoiding numbers and facts that they cannot quickly back up in conversation to avoid “being put on the spot”. He also says that he likes to talk to entrepreneurs who are “straight shooters”, because they are more credible than entrepreneurs who act like salesmen. He also advises that entrepreneurs research their potential investors so that they can cater to investors’ hobbies and interests.
For students who want to prepare a good pitch, the Suffolk Ventures alumni group will host a workshop the day before the event.
