Babson Professor Launches “Entrepreneurial” Mutual Fund

Dr. Joel Shulman, a Professor of Entrepreneurship at Babson College, is launching a mutual fund that will invest in “Entrepreneurial” companies. The fund is called the Entrepreneur US All Cap Fund, and its institutional symbol is IMPAX. Shulman has received over $120 million in institutional seed capital to start his new fund. Shulman has also received $70 million in capital commitments for a US Large Cap mutual fund that is scheduled to launch in early 2014. The funds will be offered through his company, EntrepreneurShares LLC.

Shulman’s entrepreneurship fund is considered the first of its kind, but Shulman is no stranger to investing. His private funds have an 8+ year performance track record. The US All Cap fund has a YTD performance of over 41%, while the US Large Caps has a 50%. His funds are based on proprietary models for selecting entrepreneurial companies.

Dr. Shulman is a Certified Cash Manager, a Chartered Financial Analyst, and a Certified Management Accountant. He has served as a consultant for large companies and small entrepreneurial companies, and is currently an active consultant for the World Bank. Shulman is also a well-published author whose works include How to Manage and Evaluate Capital Expenditures, Alternatives to Conventional Financing, A Manager’s Guide to Financial Analysis, and Planning Cash Flow.

“Entrepreneur” mutual funds can provide strong risk-adjusted alpha and up-capture relative to benchmarks. However, such funds can be vulnerable during weak markets. For more information about the new entrepreneurial funds, you can visit the EntrepreneurShares website, or contact Dr. Shulman at shulman@ershares.com.
