Two Books from Babson Faculty Make Business Digest’s 2013 Best Books List

The holidays are one of the best times to catch up on reading. In that spirit, Business Digest prepared a list of the 10 Best Essential Business Books of 2013. Two books written by Babson College faculty members have made the list: Conscious Capitalism by John Mackey and Rajendra Sisodia, and Worthless, Impossible, and Stupid by Daniel Isenberg.

The first book, Consious Capitalism, aims to explore how companies can create more value for all people in a society instead of simply dividing value more equitably between shareholders. The book outlines four fundamental principles for companies to create social value: collective purpose, care for all stakeholders, conscious leadership, and conscious management and organizational culture. Conscious Capitalism was published by Harvard Business Press in January 2013.

One of the authors of Conscious Capitalism, Rajendra Sisodia, is the FW Olin Distinguished Professor of Global Business and Whole Foods Market Research Scholar in Conscious Capitalism at Babson College. He is recognized as a leading figure in the conscious capitalism movement.

The second book, Worthless, Impossible and Stupid, discusses how the media hype around major innovations can discourage entrepreneurs. The book encourages entrepreneurs to hold their ground and turn simple ideas into value creation. The book provides advice to entrepreneurs, but its advice is also applicable to managers who want to change things at their company. The book was published by Harvard Business Press in July 2013. Its author, Daniel Isenberg, is the professor of Entrepreneurship Practice at Babson Executive and Enterprise Education, and the director of the Babson Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Project (BEEP).
