Sloan to Host Women in Management Conference

On February 8, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Sloan School of Management will host the 2014 Sloan Women in Management Conference. The conference theme is “Challenge Accepted.” It will feature keynote speeches by two prominent women in business, a start-up pitch competition, and a networking lunch. The conference will also feature four panel discussions: “Get Your Game Face On,” “Lessons from Entrepreneurship: Beating the Odds,” “Globalization and Empowering Women to Break Down Cultural Barriers,” and “Do Women Have to Manage Differently Than Men?” The complete agenda for the conference is available here.

The opening keynote speech will be presented by Stephanie Sonnabend, an alumna of Harvard University and the Sloan School of Management. Sonnabend is the Co-Founder and Chair of 2020 Women on Boards, a campaign that aims to increase the percentage of corporate board members who are women to 20% by the year 2020. She is on the Board of Directors of Century Bank and Trust and Century Bancorp.  Sonnabend previously served as the CEO of Sonesta International Hotels Corporation.

The closing keynote will be presented by Stephanie Fohn, a well-respected entrepreneur and an alumna of Sloan. She is the president and CEO of WhiteHat Security. During her time as CEO, WhiteHat Security was named one of the “Top 100 Most Promising Companies” in the United States by Forbes, and one of the Top 10 fastest growing Silicon Valley companies by Deloitte. Fohn has been recognized by Bay Area Businesswoman magazine, the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal, and the Forum for Women Entrepreneurs and Executives for her entrepreneurial accomplishments.

The conference is open to professionals as well as members of the MIT community. The conference will take place in the MIT Media Lab (Building E14) at 75 Amherst Street. The cost of attendance for students is $35, while the cost for professionals is $50. You can register online at the event website.
