BC Student Shares MBA Program Experience

Boston College Carroll School of Management MBA student, Chris Anselmo, shared his experience over the first seven weeks of his MBA program. He shared his thoughts with the Carroll news blog.

Anselmo first explains how the MBA program is designed and how it was an adjustment for him to get used to the rigorous curriculum and return to the mental state of taking finals. He writes:

“At Boston College, the first year of the full-time MBA program is divided into four sessions. As soon as you can say “MBA orientation”, students hit the ground running with four classes that span a mere seven weeks. It is a semester’s worth of material condensed into a short time frame. Just as you are getting used to the professor and the curriculum, it’s already time for finals.

To go from the working world to taking finals within three months was an adjustment, that’s for sure. Instead of contemplating my next work vacation, I was now struggling to re-familiarize myself with my TI-83 calculator.”

Anselmo also explains the benefits of this seven-week structure.

“One of the plusses of the demanding seven-week session is the immediate bond I’ve forged with my classmates. It is a stressful time, however everyone is on the same boat, and looks out for one another to succeed.

This period of time is intense, and there’s no way around it. Even if you consider yourself organized, it is a challenge to stay on top of your schedule.

What advice would I provide to someone about to enter the program? The adjustment period will take a few weeks. The sooner you accept that there will be a learning curve and a few bumps in the road, the better off you will be. “
