Executive MBA Helps One Man Change His Future

What if your job began to change? What would you do if you noticed your industry gradually shifting? The decision was clear for Georgia Tech Scheller College of Business alum Chris Foster. An Alumni Profile posted on Scheller’s news site explains how the Executive MBA program helped Foster change his future.

While working with a major chemical company he began to notice a rising number of products being sold to processing plants overseas. Sensing that his role might soon require him to spend time out of the country, Foster decided he needed to change.

“I was interested in the global aspect of business,” he says, “but I wasn’t interested in having to move to China or spend a significant amount of time overseas. I realized that I needed to position myself with all the tools I could so that I could make a career change if necessary. Education would be one of those tools.”

After doing some research, Foster decided to apply to Scheller’s EMBA program in Global Business. The MBA-GB starts students on the core MBA coursework before switching focus to a specialized, globally-focused curriculum.

Foster completed his degree in 2009 he successfully changed careers. After spending five years as a client representative with IBM, in 2014 he accepted a position as strategic account executive with VMware., a software company based in California.

“I had always thought that working in technology was a possibility because it’s a strong interest of mine,” he says. “Having that Georgia Tech MBA degree on my resume helped make that option available, and adds credibility to my business knowledge and experience.”
