Metro Atlanta Ranked 2nd for Job Growth and 4th for Jobs Added
On Friday, the Atlanta Regional Commission reported that the Metro Atlanta area was ranked 2nd of 12 other metros fin the nation for job growth (up 3.2 percent in May 2015 compared to May 2014) and 4th in the nation for total jobs added (79,600). The Atlanta metro area also hit a major recession recovery milestone in May 2014, finally exceeding its pre-recession employment peak that was set in December 2007.
“We’re seeing strong growth in multiple sectors, reflecting recovery across our broad-based economy,” Mike Alexander, the manager of ARC’s Research and Analytics Division, said in the Atlanta Business Chronicle. “Major companies such as Mercedes have chosen to move to Atlanta, a clear indication that this region is a place businesses want to be.”
The Atlanta Regional Commission also determined that areas in Forsyth, Hall, and North Fulton counties had the largest increase in establishments since 2005 at the Zip Code level, and a Suwanee Zip Code has seen the largest increase. Also, the commission observed that the Zip Codes with the highest concentrations of small businesses are all located at the fringes of the Atlanta metro region. The counties with the highest relative increase in employees from 2000 to 2013 were Forsyth, Henry, and Paulding counties.
