newspaper reader

Georgia State University’s J. Mack Robinson College of Business will welcome Atlanta business leader Ed Baker as a new executive in residence. Baker, who received both his undergraduate and graduate degree (a Master of International Business) at Georgia State, comes to this role after serving as publisher of the Atlanta Business Chronicle for thirty years.

As executive in residence, Baker will build relationships with both alumni and businesses, assist with fundraising, and support the school’s digital strategy. In addition, he will have the chance to apply his professional experience in a classroom setting, teaching students how to apply their field of study to the ‘real-world’ of business.

Baker’s experience extends beyond his time at the Chronicle. He has also served as the chief strategic officer of American City Business Journals, the Chronicle’s parent company overseeing 40 business journals throughout the country. He has furthermore been an indelible part of Atlanta’s business community, serving on the board of the Arby’s Foundation, Atlanta Sports Council, and Junior Achievement in Georgia among others. Both the Atlanta Press Club and Atlanta Ad Club have honored Baker with their lifetime achievement awards.

Of Baker’s involvement with the school, Robinson College Dean Richard D. Phillips offered: “Ed and the Atlanta Business Chronicle are an integral part of the fabric of Atlanta. …Ed has contributed to the direction of the college by helping us foster closer relationships with businesses. We are fortunate to have his acumen and leadership to support our strategic focus as we create the next generation of the Robinson College.”
