Sustainable Energy Expert Joins BU-Questrom

A renowned expert on energy is joining Questrom School of Business-Boston University and will establish the university’s Institute for Sustainable Energy, according to a press release from the school.

Dr. Peter Fox-Penner joins the Questrom faculty as of January first. Fox-Penner is an advisor to Energy Impact Partners. He serves on the board of directors of The Solar Foundation and LRI Inc.

Previously, Fox-Penner advised U.S. and international governments and clients on electric power and environmental policy issues as a principal and former chairman of The Brattle Group. His experience also includes serving as an advisor on science and technology policy to the Clinton White House and as a deputy assistant secretary in the Energy Department.

Fox-Penner is the author of Smart Power: Climate Change, the Smart Grid, and the Future of Electric Utilities, and his research has been cited in a Supreme Court decision. He holds a doctorate in economics from Booth School of Business-The University of Chicago.

“Dr. Fox-Penner brings Questrom School of Business and Boston University a unique blend of industry, government and academic experience that will be invaluable in accelerating our progress toward being recognized as a global leader in the sustainability community,” Kenneth W. Freeman, Allen Questrom Professor and Dean, said in the school’s press release.

The goals of Boston University’s new Institute for Sustainable Energy are to increase energy research throughout the university; connect science, engineering and math scholars with corporations and policy-makers; and affect the curriculum at Questrom and BU’s other academic units.
