Terry College of Business Announces Three-Year JD/MBA Program

The Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia has recently announced a new dual-degree law and business program that students can complete in just three years.

This new JD/MBA program is the result of a joint effort between Terry and the School of Law and aims to provide students with the skills needed for successful careers that combine law and banking, finance, international business or entrepreneurship. This unique program, in which students will have one year for legal studies, one focused on business school and the final for law school courses, will make UGA a pioneer in higher education.

According to Georgia Law Dean Peter B. “Bo” Rutledge, students entering this program will have a competitive advantage when they graduate. “In only three years, students will earn a law degree and an MBA, saving both time and money while gaining the necessary knowledge to succeed in today’s marketplace,” he said. “This program is another way that UGA is demonstrating its commitment to leadership in higher education and to serving our students in a world-class manner while maintaining our commitment to overall value.”

The introduction of this new program comes at a time when more and more law school graduates are entering the business sector. In fact, the percentage of UGA law students entering the business field after graduation has doubled since 2008.

Among the many excited by this new offerings is James R. “Jim” Borders, president of the Novare Group, a real estate development firm. Borders, who obtained both a JD and MBA from UGA, emphasized the impact this program will have for students who can minimize the time and money put toward their degree while maximizing the educational impact. “I am very proud of the leadership of both colleges in thinking through this and making it happen,” he said.
