Terry College Dean Named as UGA Women’s Leadership Fellow

The associate dean of the University of Georgia – Terry College of Business has recently been selected for the inaugural class of Women’s Leadership Fellows, a group of nine UGA faculty members who will have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills as part of the new Women’s Leadership Fellows Program.

Marisa Ann Pagnattaro currently serves as the associate dean for research and graduate programs in the Terry College of Business. She is also the Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professor of Legal Studies at UGA and the former editor-in-chief of the American Business Law Journal. Pagnattaro was selected with a group of eight other women as the first members of this new program. The participants were selected from seven different schools and colleges in addition to the Carl Vinson Institute of Government.

As fellows, the women will attend a meeting each month where they will have the opportunity to hone leadership skills and learn more about the challenges and opportunities facing research universities. Pamela Whitten, senior vice president for academic affairs and provost, commented: “The inaugural class of women’s Leadership Fellows have already accomplished so much in their careers, and they are poised to make an even greater impact on the University of Georgia.”

The program will also include the chance to learn from senior administrators on campus, in addition to speakers from both business and academia. In June, a weekend retreat will be available for more in-depth learning.

Pagnattaro’s research focuses on international trade, with a specific focus on ethical worker practices and the protection of trade secrets. In addition to honoring her as a fellow, she has received the Richard B. Russell Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching.

All of the fellows were selected from nominations that came from deans, senior administrators and self-nominations. The program is part of the Women’s Leadership Initiative, which began in the spring of 2015.
