Robinson College Students Move Forward in National Diversity Case Competition

The Georgia State University – J. Mack Robinson College of Business had a strong showing at the National Diversity Case Competition – recently held at Indiana University – with a team of four students advancing into the semifinal round.

The National Diversity Case Competition is a two-day competition, typically held on the weekends preceding Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Teams of students must apply to participate, and all selected teams – from 35 universities across the country – must include at least two students from an underrepresented minority. This was the first year students from Robinson College entered the competition, though the annual event is in its fifth year.

The hypothetical case for the competition was provided by Target Corporation. Utilizing their brand promise of “Expect More. Pay Less.”, the Target Corporation challenged students to develop a strategy for delivering on the promise for LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) millennials

Although it is only the first time Robinson College has been a part of this case competition, the participating students have advanced from the qualifying round to the semifinals. The students- Dylan Henderson, Miriam Martinez, Dimitri Molackye and Arvind Ramachandran- came from a wide variety of backgrounds, including managerial and actuarial sciences, finance and accounting.

William Bogner, assistant dean for undergraduate programs, served as the student’s adviser for the competition. “Despite receiving the case as they were headed into fall finals, Dylan, Dimitri, Miriam and Arvind…worked over the holidays and into the evening every night in the week leading up to the competition,” he said.
