Scheller College Hosts Diversity Seminar for Management Leadership for Tomorrow

This summer, the Georgia Institute of Technology – Scheller College of Business hosted three hundred prospective MBA students as part of a pre-MBA prep seminar for Native Americans, African Americans and Latinos.

The Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT) is responsible for organizing the annual event, which took place from June 16-18 this year as part of the organization’s MBA Prep Program. A nonprofit devoted to the advancement of African Americans, Latinos and Native Americans to leadership roles in communities and organizations throughout the globe, MLT assists partner schools like Scheller in accessing a more diverse pool of MBA candidates.

“We cannot afford to leave diverse talent on the sidelines,” said MLT Founder and CEO John Rice. “Increasing diverse leadership throughout our corporate and social sectors is a powerful lever for driving innovation and ensuring our nation can continue to compete and thrive globally.”

African Americans, Latinos and Native Americans comprise 30 percent of the U.S. population but just 3 percent of the senior leadership in the country. MLT aims to boost these numbers by equipping both up-and-coming minority leaders with the skills needed to thrive as well as offering strategies and insights to partner schools for increasing diversity. Since MLT was founded fifteen years ago, it has used its programs in Career Prep, MBA Prep and MBA Professional Development programs to change the lives of more than 6,000 Native American, African American and Latino leaders.

The Summer Seminar took place this June at Scheller College, inviting 300 MLT fellows from around the U.S. to be part of one-on-one coaching and access to social networking that will help them gain admittance to their top MBA program. During the Seminar, students were able to meet directly with admissions officers from partner schools throughout the country, learn more about the admissions process and further develop their own personal pitch.
