Smeal Hosts Executive Vice President of PPG Industries

On Friday, January 31, the Executive Vice President of PPG Industries Michael H. McGarry will speak at the Penn State University’s Smeal College of Business. The speech is part of Smeal’s Executive Insights series, and McGarry will discuss his thoughts about business and leadership.

McGarry will participate in a moderated discussion with Charles H. Whiteman, the John and Becky Surma Dean of the Smeal College of Business, from 11:15 to 12:05 on January 31. The event will be held on the Penn State University campus in the Struthers Auditorium, on the first floor of the Business Building. The Executive Insights event is free and open to the public. However, participants must register before the event at Penn State Smeal’s website.

McGarry began working for PPG in 1981 as an engineer at a PPG chemical complex in Lake Charles, LA. He became the Executive Vice President of PPG in 2013. In his current position, he oversees PPG’s flat glass and architectural coatings businesses; the African, Middle Eastern, and European Regions; and the company’s information technology, quality control, corporate environment, and health and safety protocol. He also serves on the board of Pittsburgh Glass Works LLC and he is the director of the board of Axiall Corporation.

Smeal’s Executive Insights series brings business leaders to the Penn State campus to speak with students, faculty, administrators, and staff at the school. Smeal has previously hosted over 25 leaders as part of the series, including executives from Dell, Kohl’s, Samsung, Boeing, Deloitte, Johnson & Johnson, and Verizon.
