Stanford to Hold Webinar for SEED Program

The Stanford Institute for Innovation in Developing Economies (SEED) at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business, is holding a webinar for those seeking more information about the program’s volunteer options. The webinar will be held August 27, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.

SEED is seeking innovative business leaders to volunteer in Africa and lead path-breaking initiatives that transform local businesses into market leaders, impacting lives on a massive scale. The program was founded in 2011 with a gift from Stanford alumnus Robert King (MBA 1960) and his wife Dorothy King. It was established to bridge a critical gap in global efforts to address prosperity around the world.

SEED’s unique approach focuses on private sector job creation by transforming local and regional businesses with exceptional growth and impact potential. Jobs and job creation are of critical importance to poverty reduction, jobs promote economic mobility as well as social cohesion and provide solid foundations for improving social and political stability.

SEED aims to stimulate the creation of economic opportunities that reach and benefit people who live in poverty through innovation, entrepreneurship and the growth of business. Its goal is to transform lives on a massive scale.

In order to achieve large-scale impact, the business building initiatives of the program preferentially target sectors that have been demonstrated to yield high economic and social returns. Some of those returns include healthcare, education, food and nutrition, energy, water and sanitation.

The webinar is open to all members of the public. During the webinar, program staff will discuss details of the Volunteer Business Coach and Volunteer Advisor Program and take questions from the small group of prospective applicants on the call. Registration must be competed online before the webinar. Calls generally last about 45 minutes to one hour.
