SF State’s Business Ethics Week Explores Diversity, Compliance and Sustainability
San Francisco State University’s College of Business celebrated its 10th Annual Business Ethics Week, which featured speakers who addressed the ethical dilemmas faced by business leaders.
Among the issues addressed were legal compliance, equality and diversity in the workplace, and sustainability.
Lectures included “Sustainability and the Future of Transportation”, “Where Does Your Trash Go? A Sustainability Discussion with Recology” and “Clif Bar’s Supply Chain and Sustainability”. Representatives from companies such as Lyft, Clorox, and Clif delivered talks to attendees from both the MBA and undergraduate communities.
Associate Professor of Management Denise Kleinrichert said in a press release, “We want students to take away the fact that business is not just for profit, that it’s about its integrity toward stakeholders too. Businesses must respect not only their employees but also customers, the general community and the natural environment.”
SF State offers an MBA Emphasis in Ethics & Compliance. Students who decide upon this as a focus land in careers as diverse as finance and accounting, healthcare, information technology, manufacturing, hospitality, and pharmaceuticals.
Ethics & Compliance specialists develop and support corporate codes of conduct, enforce regulatory procedures, provide forecasting and analysis, and advise management in creating ethical corporate cultures. Since Business Ethics Week began in 2006, approximately 50% of faculty have integrated ethics and social responsibility into their courses.
