Leavey’s Conscientious Capitalism Initiative Helps Students Become Accountable Leaders

Conscientious Capitalism

Starting this month, the Santa Clara’s Leavey School of Business launched its Conscientious Capitalism Initiative, a dynamic new venture for students to glean lessons about applying “personal virtues and purpose” within leadership roles.

Dean Caryn Beck-Dudley explains that the underlying ethos that drives concepts like conscientious capitalism and corporate responsibility are very much in line with LSB’s Jesuit mission. “The inspiration our students will receive from accomplished and conscientious leaders is much needed today.

CCI is a joint partnership between LSB and the Center for Conscientious Leadership, an organization founded by former Under Armour executive and former Rosewood Capital managing partner Chip Adams.

“The combination of insights from leaders sharing their own journeys and the mentoring students receive will provide ongoing self-discovery and a framework students can use to lead themselves and others in an increasingly global and complex business environment,” Adams said. “We are both excited and proud to offer this class and speaker series at Santa Clara University.”

The Conscientious Capitalism Initiative consists of two major components: a 10-week upper-division course for a 21 senior cohort and a Speaker Series, featuring guest lectures from former eBay, Starbucks, and Google Ventures CEOs – even former Navy SEALs. “The guest lecturers from the course will also address a larger audience of students, alumni, faculty, staff and other members of the Santa Clara community through this series,” the press release noted.

According to the the release, “Adams will moderate and invite the audience to participate in an engaging dialogue with the respective speakers about their lives, their careers and their perspective on the role of purpose, values and accountability in successful leadership.”
