Leavey Creates New Council of Grad. Students in Biz

The Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University has created a new Council of Graduate Students in Business (CGSB). This council is made up of student representatives from all graduate programs. These representatives will work with faculty and staff in order to provide graduate students with an outstanding experience.

The council will meet monthly in order to address and discuss areas such as communication, community building, career support, teaching, and technology. Current students are encouraged to contact the council (cgsb@scu.edu) or any representative with questions, concerns, ideas or kudos.

GGU Holds Express Admissions Event

Golden Gate University will hold an Express Admissions event for prospective students. The event will be held Oct. 8, 2014 from noon until 2:00 p.m. The event is open for graduate, undergraduate and international students.

During the event, attendants will be able to speak with the Golden Gate University staff. Admissions professionals will be available to answer all question about returning to school. Sloan Plans Annual Diversity Weekend

MIT Sloan School of Management will hold its third annual Diversity Weekend October 2 through October 3, 2014. The purpose of the event is to provide an opportunity for prospective minority students to get a sense of what life is like as an MIT Sloan student.

The event is a collaboration between the MIT Sloan Admissions Office, minority MBA students and organizations on campus. Current students help to plan the program and are serving as personal hosts for attendees by providing overnight accommodations.

Rhett Braunschweig has been named the Kellogg School of Management’s 2015 McGowan Fellow. The William G. McGowan Charitable Fund works with 10 top-tier MBA programs to honor students who have demonstrated academic excellence and social leadership. Haub School of Business alumni Amanda Sapio offers an insight into a class at Haub for prospective and current students. Sapio writes gives her input in the June 2014 issues of the Haub School Review.

Sapio writes:

“Students who register for Essentials of Management, taught by Tim Swift, Ph.D., are in for an experience that deviates significantly from the conventional management class. The class integrates service learning and academic coursework with a weekly volunteer requirement, in-class discussions, journal entries and various other assignments,” wrote Sapio. “Swift, an assistant professor of management, focuses on management concepts, best-practices and theories to help his students understand organizational processes within the for-profit and nonprofit sectors.”

Columbia Chief of Staff of Dean’s Office Named

Binu Nair has been named Chief of Staff of the Dean’s Office of Columbia Business School. Nair began her new position at Columbia September 8, 2014. Nair will be responsible for a variety of strategic, administrative and operational functions for the faculty, staff, students, alumni and senior administrators of Columbia Business School. She will also aid both government and community leaders.

Nair will be joining Columbia after spending a year and a half as a strategy and planning consultant at the Fordham University Graduate School of Business in New York. While at Fordham, Nair worked in conjunction with their dean’s office, development office and board of overseers to carry out benchmarking, strategic planning, and development activities.

Haas Ranked No. 5 by Financial Engineer

The Hass School of Business at UC Berkeley was ranked no. 5 in the Financial Engineer’s 2015 MBA program rankings. The Financial Engineer’s rankings are the most comprehensive rankings for graduate business programs in the United States.

The rankings were calculated by a weighted average of each of six components. The six components are:

  • 30% Mean GMAT Scores
  • 25% Mean Starting Salary and Bonus
  • 15% Mean Undergraduate GPA
  • 15% Acceptance Rate
  • 10% Full Time Graduates Employed at Graduation
  • 5% Full Time Graduates Employed 3 Months after Graduation
