Corporate Stewardship Conference Coming to Marshall

The USC Marshall School of Business and its Center for Effective Organizations have announced a conference about corporate stewardship. The conference is being held in honor of Warren Bennis, University Professor and Distinguished Professor of Business Administration, who pioneered the field of leadership studies.

Hosted by James G. Ellis, dean of the Marshall School of Business, “Corporate Stewardship: Organizing for Sustainable Effectiveness” will bring local, national business leader, USC faculty, research scientists and students together on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, in the Davidson Conference Center on the University of Southern California’s University Park campus.

The event will showcase contemporary corporate practices and conclusive research in social responsibility, business ethics and environmental sustainability. Three respected CEOS, Howard Schultz of Starbucks, Terri Kelly of W. L. Gore and James Sinegal (retired) of Costco, will also be delivering keynote speeches. Each keynote speaker will participate in a panel discussion following their presentations. These panels will feature lead executives from other companies that are  organizing for sustainable effectiveness, as well as scholars from USC and other universities researching and writing on the conference’s themes.

“Our goal is to help build local and global awareness and understanding of effective practices and stimulate research and teaching initiatives focused on the changing role of corporations in society,” said Edward Lawler, CEO director and Distinguished Professor of Business. “The conference is intended to serve as a catalyst that will accelerate cross-discipline research and knowledge development in the critical, rapidly changing management area of sustainable effectiveness.”
