Cal. State LA Ranked by Hispanic Outlook Mag.

California State University, Los Angeles has once again been ranked by the Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education as one of the top schools in the nation serving Hispanic students.

Cal State L.A. ranks no. 13 on the Top 100 4-Year Colleges & Universities Undergraduate Hispanic Enrollment list and no. 28 on the Hispanic Outlook’s Top 100 Colleges & Universities Granting Undergraduate & Graduate Degrees to Hispanic students list. This national listing of colleges and universities is derived from the U.S. Department of Education’s Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (2012-2013).

The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education Magazine, has been a top information news source and the sole Hispanic educational magazine for the higher education community and those involved in running institutions of higher learning for 24 years.

Published biweekly, Hispanic Outlook covers events, news and ongoing trends that affect multicultural institutions of the 21st century. Hispanic Outlook reaches a large minority audience.

The University was also listed among the magazine’s top 10 schools in awarding bachelor’s degrees to Hispanics in the homeland security, law enforcement and firefighting category.

Cal State L.A. alumni are successfully serving the country in leadership positions impacting the economy, the arts and government, including such notables as Lucille Roybal-Allard, U.S. Congress, 40th district; Félix Gutiérrez, journalist, educator and former senior vice president of Newseum; John Huerta, retired chief legal counsel for the Smithsonian Institution; Rosario Marin, former U.S. Treasurer; Carlos Mencia, comedian; Edward James Olmos, actor and filmmaker; and Frank Romero, artist and muralist.

A federally designated Hispanic-Serving Institution, with 55.8 percent of the University’s students identifying themselves as Hispanic, Cal State L.A. is also noted for having established the nation’s first Chicano Studies department in 1968.
