Hankamer MBA Students and Zambian Students Partner for Business Consulting
MBA candidates from the Hankamer School of Business at Baylor University and undergraduate students from Northrise University participated in the annual Africa Global Initiative course in Ndola, Zambia in June. The students formed five teams to work with three local businesses in Ndola on projects involving entrepreneurship, human resources, pricing structures, and marketing. The Africa Global Initiative provides a collaborative learning environment that gives Baylor and Northrise students the chance to work with real companies in developing nations.
“It has been a pleasure to work so closely with students on the other side of the world,” said MBA student J.D. Newman. “The learning that took place during this class cannot be imitated or transferred through textbooks, it is something that can only be attained by experiencing it firsthand.”
“I really enjoyed the Baylor/Northrise class of management,” said Northrise undergraduate Xavier Musaba. “This has given me the opportunity to learn a lot about our industries, as well as it was an eye-opener on certain aspects of the local industries.”
The Baylor MBA students worked with the Northrise students in Zambia for two weeks of the ten week Africa Global Initiative program. The Baylor students then returned to the U.S., and continued working with their Northrise teammates using different communication methods. The teams will connect electronically at the end of July to present their findings to the companies in Zambia.
“It has been a very wonderful experience for me to be in class with the Baylor students,” said Northrise University student Chisenga Sankondo.
Northrise University was founded in 2004, and was the first official private university in Zambia. The university’s mission is to prepare students to work in the ministry and in business, contributing to the economic and spiritual development of Zambia. Baylor partnered with Northrise in 2013.
