UD Sustainable Business Network Hosts Ethics Talk at Texas Instruments

On July 24, the Sustainable Business Network (SBN) at The Satish and Yasmin Gupta College of Business at the University of Dallas hosted a summer networking event for more than 80 risk and compliance officers, human resources professionals, and members of the UD community. The professionals came from a variety of influential companies with local branches, including AT&T, PepsiCo, Fidelity Investments, Bell Helicopter, Cucina Antiqua, Oncor and Sabre.

At the networking event, Texas Instruments (TI) Vice President and Director of Ethics David Solomon spoke about TI’s challenges and successes in promoting an organization-wide ethical culture, in a talk called “Ethics: Beyond Words and Slogans.” The event was held on Texas Instruments’ Dallas campus.

“A true commitment to ethics comes from the top,” Solomon stated in his talk. “TI’s leaders establish the ‘tone at the top’ by communicating to the entire company their own commitment to doing business the right way.”

TI has been named one of the world’s most ethical companies for nine years in a row by Ethisphere Magazine, earning the accolade again in 2015. Also in 2015, Fortune ranked TI “second in industry” on its “World’s Most Admired Companies” ranking, for the twelfth consecutive year. Solomon claims that these accolades are a result of the company’s prioritization of ethics. TI has supported its open-door policy by offering 13 mostly anonymous channels for employees to report any concerns they have about compliance or ethics at TI.

The Sustainable Business Network aims to provide an open forum for members of the University of Dallas community to exchange best practices, build relationships, and discuss issues of corporate sustainability, eco-innovation, and social responsibility. SBN hosts panel discussions on relevant topics led by industry experts, and other quarterly events.
