Naveen Jindal Professor Receives Award for a Decade-Long Impact of Scholarly Research

A professor at the Naveen Jindal School of Management was recently honored with a Decade Award by the Academy of Management, recognizing the long-lasting influence of his research.

Eric W.K. Tsang, a professor of Strategy and International Management, and co-author Andrew C. Inkpen, published their work “Social Capital, Networks and Knowledge Transfer” with the Academy of Management in 2005. This paper looked into both personal and organizational relationships, and how they affect sharing business knowledge. In the ten years since its publication, the work has been referred to over 2,200 times in various scholarly works, making it the most cited paper of any published by AMR that year

The Academy of Management has been rated by Journal Citation Reports, and has received top marks for the influence and staying power of its articles. In a study of impact that occurred in 2014, AMR was ranked first of 115 business journals and second of 185 management journals.

Tsang joined UT Dallas two years after his 2005 publication with AMR and is now the Dallas World Salute Distinguished Professor in Global Strategy. He has continued his research in knowledge transfer, and has expanded his work to include strategic alliances and the social responsibility of corporations.

Tsang has also continued publication of influential research papers, being awarded with the 2015 Best Paper Award for “Case Studies and Generalization in Information Systems Research: A Critical Realist Perspective” from the Journal of Strategic Information Systems, and being named best senior editor of the Management and Organization Review in 2015.
