New S.E.E.D.S. Office at A&M-Commerce Embraces Diversity in Leadership

At the end of September, Texas A&M University-Commerce witnessed the grand opening of the office Serving Engaged Empowered & Diverse Students (S.E.E.D.S). Located on the ground floor of the Rayburn Student Center, the S.E.E.D.S. office aims to help students navigate the diverse and multicultural campus at Texas A&M.

The office will focus on six primary areas of diversity: gender, sexual orientation, faith, disability, socioeconomic status, and race/ethnicity. With these areas in mind, the goal of the office will be collaboration across campus to provide support, opportunity and resources for students. Ultimately, the office hopes to be recognized beyond campus as a leader in social justice and diversity while serving the aim to “Embrace Equality and Celebrate Differences”.

The staff of the S.E.E.D.S. office share a common goal: offer students leadership opportunities, assist students in cultivating meaningful and supportive relationships, and improve diversity education. Staff at the new office include Joshua Moore, two-time graduate of Western Kentucky University, as associate director. Moore will serve beneath Danielle Davis, the director of Leadership Engagement & Development Department (L.E.A.D.). Further assistance will come from Mayra Martinez, Commerce alumna and graduate assistant for S.E.E.D.S.

According to associate director Joshua Moore, S.E.E.D.S embraces all students and welcomes them to the office. “S.E.E.D.S. is an office where all students are welcome. No matter your background, there is a place for you in S.E.E.D.S.,” he says. “Just as our philosophy states, we are not just a space but a place for ALL.”
