Library Collection to Recognize Gupta Professor’s Extensive Career in Risk Management and Reinsurance

A professor at the University of Dallas’ Satish and Yasmin Gupta College of Business library has recently been honored for his contribution to the field of risk management and reinsurance.

Professor Bruce Evans, who began his relationship with the University of Dallas at the same time that the Graduate School of Management was just beginning, began his career in risk management as a risks underwriter for Cigna Corp. in the late 1950’s. He is now in his 42nd year teaching the course ‘The Capstone Experience’, one of the longest serving faculty members at the school.

Throughout his extensive career, Evans continued to collect any document related to the industry of enterprise risk management and reinsurance. Many of these documents even included confidential publications or copies of court transcripts at which he served as an expert witness.

Evans understood that his collection of documents contained information which would assist the learning process for students within the field. He especially knew it would be important for the documents to have a permanent home after the announcement of the new SB Hall, which will house the entire college of business in one location.

In seeking a home for his documents, Evans eventually discovered the Kathryn & Shelby Cullom Davis Library, currently the world’s largest collection of documents and literature related to insurance, policies and related documents. The director of the library, Ismael Rivera-Sierra, happily accepted the 20 boxes of documents to join the library.

The documents will become part of the Davis Library’s Archives Collection, kept together and entitled “The Bruce D. Evans Papers”.
