Students at UNT Tackle Real-World Investment Challenges in the Fidelity Business Case Competition

Fidelity Investments, one of the most well-known financial service providers in the U.S., is seeking help from students at the University of North Texas College of Business through a Business Case Competition. Seeking to change the fact that millennials do not invest or save for their futures at the same scale as generations before, Fidelity is challenging students at UNT to discover a solution.

For the competition, UNT students will construct business plans that can help the financial industry better inform Millennials on the necessity of future investing, as well as provide tools they use to save and plan for retirement. The competition will serve both to offer Fidelity ideas for tackling this real-world problem, as well as provide students hands-on problem solving experience.

The competition will invite 50 teams from the UNT College of Business. The participants include a wide variety of majors, such as finance, human resources and marketing. Each team will work together to research, create and ultimately present their business plans. Twenty five teams will then be selected to present for a panel of judges, including both UNT faculty as well as Fidelity leadership. Finally, the top five teams will compete against each other for cash prizes.

The head of Fidelity Investments shared services group and Texas region co-leader, Mike Slovak, expressed his excitement at working together with the University in a way that would benefit both Fidelity and the participating students.

“We’re excited to collaborate with UNT students to generate new ideas for Fidelity Investments to continue providing Millennials with the tools, knowledge and guidance they can use to become successful investors,” he said.
