USC Marshall and USA Today Score a Home Run for Sports News

The Marshall School of Business of the University of Southern California and USA Today are collaborating to create the go-to site for readers invested in the business of sports.

The Marshall School’s Sports Business Institute (SBI) has collaborated with the news outlet’s Sports Media Group to form The Fields of Green, which offers readers statistics, salient analysis, and news on current issues in the athletics world using curated blog posts.

Launched in 2014, the site has worked hard to become a winner in a crowded marketplace of similar sites. Forbes Sports Money voted Fields of Green (@fog_sports) as one of its Top 50 Twitter accounts to follow. Courtney Brunious, associate director of the SBI and managing editor of Fields of Green said, “The readership has consistently grown as we’ve gained more exposure for our content and analysis… Our objective was to create a platform that would both enable SBI staff and students to cover sports business issues and to encourage participation from industry experts.”

“We have published roundtables featuring well-known industry players,” he continued “and have offered unique analysis on issues ranging from the NBA’s handling of the Donald Sterling saga, to LeBron James’ return to Cleveland, to the legal questions surrounding Daily Fantasy sites.”

USA Today features highlights from the site which reaches readers of all of the paper’s platforms, including the MSN Network and Yahoo! Sports. The curators of Fields of Green plan to expand the site ever further, with the launch of video interviews and a podcast.
