Cass Business School of City University of London recently announced Helen Sharman PhD — one of two of the first British astronauts to travel to space — as a headlining speaker for its third annual Cass MBA London Symposium.

Entitled “Explorers & Discoveries”, the London Symposium is in its third year. It will gather over 150 MBA candidates from various fields of study at Cass, along with students from partner schools in South Africa and Europe.

The London Symposium allows MBA students to learn from leaders in diverse fields such as science, the media, sports, finance and culture.  Through this program, MBAs are taught to see the value in gathering a wide range of experience as they pursue their degrees.

Helen Sharman will celebrate the 25th anniversary of her journey to space this May.  An accomplished chemist, Sharman underwent a rigorous selection process before being chosen in 1989 among nearly 13,000 other applicants on live television to complete the mission.  Entitled Project Juno, the space program was a collaboration between the former Soviet Union and a consortium of British corporations.

After 18 months of vigorous training in Moscow, Sharman launched into space where she was assigned such tasks as agricultural and medical testing and photographing earth from the space station.

Sharman, who was given the honor of Order of the British Empire in 1992 recently said:

“We should push forward not only our own individual boundaries, but also the boundaries of what humans believe is possible. People are the biggest limitations in our own lives. There’s a huge amount we can do and we should make the best use of our lives for the benefit of the world.”

The Cass MBA London Symposium will take place April 25-28th, 2016.
