A faculty member at the Texas A&M University – Commerce College of Business was recently honored with the title of Lions Legacy Distinguished Professor of Business Administration.

The honor was presented to Dr. Augustine “Chuck” Arize, a professor of the Department of Economics and Finance, from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), which has provided accreditation to Commerce College since 1975. The AACSB is the premiere agency for accrediting programs in business administration, granting accreditation to only five percent of the world’s business schools.

In addition to program accreditation, the agency has made a commitment to publishing impactful research in the field, including a commitment of $250,000 to Commerce College for their first-ever college-wide endowed professorship. The faculty member with the highest h index, a measure of scholarly research impact, will hold this distinguished title.

Dr. Arize is no stranger to recognition, having been honored in the past with the Regents Professor Award. The impact of his research is incredibly notable, with his work being cited nearly 2,700 times in academic literature.

Asli Ogunc, associate professor of economics and department head, commented on the multi-faceted impact Dr. Arize has had on the students and community of Texas A&M. “Dr. Arize is one of the most eminent scholars at Texas A&M University-Commerce,” she said.  “His prolific contributions to the field of international money demand have earned him an international reputation and impact.”

According to Ogunc and others in the community, Dr. Arize’s importance to Texas A&M stretches far beyond the measurable impact of his scholarly work. “Dr. Arize is the epitome of the great scholar/teacher,” she said. “This award is justly deserved.”
