Cranfield School of Management’s Executive Development Program Receives High Honors

Cranfield School, home of the executive development program

The European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) recently bestowed high honors upon the Cranfield School of Management for its executive development program.

The gold award specifically acknowledged the school’s Center for Customized Executive Education (CCED), which has a longstanding partnership with oil and gas company BG Group.

A prominent session held by the CCED, titled ‘Exploring Leadership,’ was developed by Mark Threlfall, Executive Development Director at Cranfield; and Craig Darroch, who heads Learning & Development at The BG Group. Aimed at middle and senior managers of the company, ‘Exploring Leadership’ offers various exercises meant to develop effective leadership practices.

Threlfall is a proponent of the ‘soft systems’ ethos — a management strategy that involves a high level of focus on the details of a team’s interpersonal dynamics.

Threlfall commented on the program and the award,

“ The [program] is built upon the development of a strong, real partnership …  Significant investment in developing relationships …enabled us to design and deliver an impactful intervention, that has truly made a difference to individuals and [to the BG Group]. Coupled with world class learning processes…and locations, we believe we have created something special that delivers sustainable results.”

Along with its focus on individualized learning, Cranfield’s MBA curriculum is widely recognized for its global presence. In May of 2016, the school was named number one in the world by the Financial Times for its international reach.

Director of the CCED, Dr. John Glen, remarked,

“It is an honor to have won the Excellence in Practice award. As businesses increasingly require personalized education programs, the University’s Center for Customized Executive Development partners with global clients to design and deliver learning programs that meet their leadership and talent development needs, thereby, enhancing both individual and organizational performance.”
