Cranfield school

The 20th annual Cranfield School of Management’s  Business Challenge held its semi-final competition on September 8th. The competition welcomed high school students from schools across Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire to compete for a £1,500 prize.

The competition was an opportunity for high school students to create a business plan and forecast a business simulation. They worked under the guidance of current MBA students at Cranfield as well as the non-executive director of the MBA program and local business managers from Santander.

Six students from Harlington, Sharnbrook, Walton High, Shenley Brook End, Biddenham, Hazeley, and Lord Grey participated. As part of the competition, the students also received an overview of the role of banks, from Mohammed Ali of Santander, as well as a pep talk about pursuing goals.

After a hard-fought competition, Lord Grey and Harlington Upper School came out the winners. They’ll go onto the finals to be held in December at Cranfield.

Karen Valverde, the Business Simulations Director, spoke about the competition in a Cranfield press release. “The challenge is an ideal way for students to experience working in a business with first-hand guidance from mentors from the corporate world, she said. “The teams, although under very tight time pressures, managed terrifically well to keep their composure, keep on track and show real business potential. We can be encouraged that our futures are in good hands.”

Run by Cranfield’s Centre for Customised Executive Development (CCED); the competition was a resounding success. Students learned teamwork, strategic direction, forecasting, resilience, and acting sustainably.

The Cranfield School of Management is regularly ranked as one of the top 10 business school’s in the world. The school offers a one-year MBA, an Executive MBA, and a Part-Time Executive MBA (Defence). Each MBA program is designed to help students build the robust leadership skills and management techniques necessary to thrive in a fast-moving business world.
