USC Marshall Professor Named to NASA Transition Team

NASA

A USC Marshall School of Business Lloyd Greif Center Professor will serve on the Trump administration’s NASA transition team.

Greg Autry is an assistant clinical professor of entrepreneurship at the Greif Center. He has taught there since 2013, making notable accomplishments to government policy on entrepreneurship and innovation.

Autry’s qualification to serve on the NASA team springs from his specialty in the concept of “New Space,” embodied by the ideals of Elon Musk and the emerging frontier of commercial space transportation.

He contributed to Forbes magazine last October with a story recommending various policy improvements for the country’s space exploration program. This helped to earn him the attention of the incoming administration.

Currently, Autry serves on the editorial board of the New Space Journal. He also served as the lead author of a report for the FAA Office of Commercial Space Transportation, supporting policies to position the U.S. as a world leader of commercial space travel.

Acknowledging his appointment, Autry noted, “This is an incredible opportunity for me to contribute, provide an important [regional] perspective in the process and collect immense amounts of data and contacts for my own research on how government policy impacts the environment in which new industries and organizations emerge.”

The transition team will define national policy on space exploration, and will do its best to integrate the accomplishments of the past administration with the swiftly shifting ideology of the Trump administration.

Helena Yli-Renko, associate professor of clinical entrepreneurship and Director of the Greif Center, remarked on Autry’s new position. “We are proud to have a leading space industry expert on our faculty [who will provide] input into national policy.  Greg will provide an important…perspective in the process.”
