An Executive MBA student at Cass Business School-City University London is on the shortlist for The Independent MBA Student of the Year Award presented by the Association of MBAs. Cass EMBA student Simon Cooper is one of six finalists for the honor, according to a press release from the school.

“I am honored to have been nominated by Cass and then short-listed for the prestigious Independent MBA Student of Year Award 2015,” Cooper said in the Cass press release. “This really is the icing on the cake — recognizing my contribution during two fantastic years completing my Executive MBA. I would like to thank my class and faculty members, without whom this award would not be possible.”

The criteria for the honor are academic record, initiative, career progression and achievements, according to AMBA.

After judges interview Cooper and the other finalists, the winner of the award will be announced in London on Jan. 29. The Independent MBA Student of the Year will receive a cash prize of £1,000 (about $1,517) and serve as an ambassador for the association, according to AMBA. Three runners-up will each receive a cash prize of £500 (about $758).

Established in 1967, the Association of MBAs accredits programs at more than 200 business schools around the world.

Cass’ EMBA program, in which Cooper is enrolled, was recently ranked on the list of the 2016 Best Executive MBA Programs by the careers site Ivy Exec. It is designed for students who want to continue working full time while they study. The two-year program includes an International Consultancy Project and a Business Mastery Project.
