Hankamer School Forum Bridges the Gap Between Business and Healthcare

As part of the Forum for Healthcare Professionals series, the Baylor University – Hankamer School of Business recently hosted “The Business of Healthcare” as a way to bridge the gap for those whose careers overlap in both business and healthcare.

“The Business of Healthcare” event was a response to the growing need of healthcare professions to learn more about business transactions they may encounter in their industry, such as acquisitions, consolidations and mergers. Together with Gray Reed & McGraw, Hankamer hosted the forum as a way for industry leaders to exchange ideas and best practices, in addition to networking. Attendees of the forum included shareholders from Gray Reed & McGraw, Baylor Regent Joel Allison, several Baylor Executive MBA faculty and students, and over 100 healthcare and business professionals.

The event was moderated by Gary Carini, the associate dean for Graduate Business Programs at Hankamer, who led a panel of both experienced healthcare and business professionals. Among the panel’s participants was Mark Francis – managing director/head of the Healthcare Group at Houlian Lokey, Ken Kramer – executive vice president/general counsel at Texas Health Resources, and Greg Koonsman – senior managing director at VMB Health.

Richard Membreno, an Executive MBA candidate at Hankamer and development manager at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center, commented on the forum’s relevance to his every-day needs and goals. “[T]he discussion from the forum was timely and accurate,” Membreno said. “Working in hospital administration for Baylor Scott & White Health, our goal is to provide quality and affordable care for our patients every day. Staying ahead of all the different changes and regulations is comparable to aiming at a moving target, but we are all getting through it together.”
