Rice University Full-Time MBA Program Structure

The Rice University full-time MBA program lasts for 22 months and features courses in finance, accounting, data analysis, and marketing, allowing students to get a broad understanding of business foundations. Concentrations in the MBA programs are only allowed for the full-time MBA students.


Rice University full-time MBA students are required to complete 60 credits for graduation. First-year students in the full-time program participate in foundation courses that will build the skills required to succeed in a business management role as part of the core curriculum. During the second year of the program, students will participate strictly in elective courses. This is when students have the opportunity to focus their curriculum on a concentration for their MBA degree.

Concentrations for the full-time program include accounting, energy, entrepreneurship, finance, healthcare, marketing, operations management, real estate, and strategic management.

Class Profile

According to recent data provided by the Rice University Jones Graduate School of Business, there are currently 228 students enrolled in the full-time MBA program. These students are majority male (70.6 percent), with 23.2 percent minority students, and 30.3 international students.

These students earned an average GMAT score of 711, a GPA of 3.34. The average age is 29-years old, and the average work experience is 5.6 years.

Career Statistics

The most recent graduating class received an average base salary of $131,821. Students accepted jobs in three industries in nearly equal percentages: financial services claimed 23.4 percent, followed by both consulting and petroleum/energy at 20.2 percent each. Nearly 12 percent of students went into the technology field after graduation, and just over seven percent into pharmaceuticals. As is common for post-MBA placement, Rice placed nearly 81 percent of graduates into jobs in its own region, the Southwest.

Tuition, Scholarships, and Financial Aid

The projected tuition and fees for the Rice University full-time MBA is $59,750 in the first year of the program. Students will pay a $2,500 deposit, and will pay for half of their tuition in each of the first and second semesters. All payments may be covered by the use of personal resources, financial aid and private loans. Semester Payment Plans are also available through the Cashier’s Office.

Scholarships are only available to those applying to the Rice MBA full-time program. Rice has a limited number of scholarships available for students, which are awarded on the basis of academic merit. All students are automatically considered for a scholarship. Around 82 percent of the most recent incoming class of full-time MBA students at Rice received some merit-based or name scholarship.


In order to be considered for admission to the Rice University full-time MBA, applicants must complete the following steps for application:

Complete an online application, two required personal essay and an optional third, a professional resume and official test scores submitted to the Jones School (GMAT, GRE, TOEFL, or PTE Academic).

Applicants are also required to provide one confidential evaluation submitted to the admissions office provided that this one evaluation is from the applicant’s current, direct supervisor. If this one evaluation is not from a current supervisor, applicants are required to submit two confidential evaluations. Applicants also need to provide official transcripts of all degree-granting institutions.

There is a $200 application fee payable online or by check.
