Owen Graduate School of Management Full-Time MBA Program Structure

The two-year, full-time MBA at the Vanderbilt University Owen Graduate School of Management follows a traditional format, with four modules per year split between fall, winter, spring, and summer breaks. Within breaks, MBA students have the optional short courses. The summer after year one in the program is used for internships, prepping students for a full-time career at the conclusion of the program the following year.

All required core and elective courses are worth two credits toward the completion of the program, with optional short courses worth either one credit or no credits. A total of 62 credits is required to complete the program. Like most full-time programs, the majority of core courses are usually completed within the first year, with the second year consisting primarily of elective courses.

After an initial orientation sequence before the official start of the two-year MBA program at the Owen Graduate School of Management, first-year students begin the first of two modules that feature only core courses. In total, students must complete 11 core courses. Module three, in the beginning in spring of the first year, is when students begin taking elective courses. All MBA students are expected to participate in the summer internship program after the first year, with an estimated 50 percent of students earning a full-time job offer from the program.

The second year features the majority of elective courses. Students are expected to complete at least one concentration, of which requires 12 individual credits to complete. To earn a specialization, students must complete 20 credit hours worth of courses. The shorter emphasis option only requires eight credits to complete.

Concentrations include: accounting; finance; general management; healthcare; human organization performance; marketing; operations & analytics; and strategy.
