Stillman MBA Students Participate in “Doing Business in India” Trip

Earlier this spring, a group of Seton Hall students, including three in the Stillman MBA program, traveled to India with Professor A.D. Amar as part of the “Doing Business in India” course.  A group of seven students, comprised of four graduates and three undergraduates, toured Mumbai, Kochi and New Delhi during this ten-day international excursion.

In addition to taking classes at University of Mumbai, St. Xavier’s College, Jaypee Business School and Delhi School of Economics, students meet with Indian business leaders.  To kickoff the adventure and gain foundational knowledge of the Indian economy, the group first visited the Bombay Stock Exchange. There they met with the Managing Director and CEO of the Bombay Stock Exchange Institute.  A Stillman alumus organized for students to visit PharmaLab and meet with the company’s Marketing Director to learn about the generic drug market of which India is the global leader.  Once in New Delhi, the group stopped at the corporate office of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited.  Here, students gained insight into how an organization makes strategic decisions in a changing global economy.

Another component of the trip was sightseeing. While in Mumbai, the group toured the Elephanta Caves (pictured) and passed through the Gateway to India.  Before journeying to New Delhi, students spent one night in Kochi  and slept on a houseboat in the backwaters of Kerala Backwater. During their visit to the country’s capital, New Delhi, Seton Hall students got to see the famous  Taj Mahal and presidential palace.

Upon returning from this once-in-a-lifetime trip, students reflected on this experience in “India [as one that] has allowed us to see a reflection of SELF! Indian culture is very diverse and rich. Our journey was remarkable, an awe-inspiring adventure.”
