Startup Weekend Comes to NYC in Late June

Calling all NYC entrepreneurs, Startup Weekend is hosting a three-day, 54-hour event in New York City beginning June 21. For those of you who haven’t heard of Startup Weekend it is a Seattle-based organization that organizes events around the world for budding entrepreneurs.

Following an opening reception during which pitches are delivered to the audience, attendees form teams to work on those business ideas that received the largest number of votes. Throughout the weekend, teams receive assistance from coaches as they begin to flesh out their business concept. Coaches at the NYC event include several graphic and web designers, user experiences specialists, the CEOs of flourishing startups, and the strategy director of a mobile strategy, design and development agency.

By 5:00 PM on Sunday, teams must be ready to present their ventures to a panel of four judges: Charlie O’Donnell, Partner at Brooklyn Bridge Ventures; Liz Crawford, CTO of Birchbox; Wendell Lansford, CEO of Offerpop; and Hilary Gosher, Managing Director at Insight Venture Partners.

Startup Weekend is a partner of the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, which is recognized as the largest foundation in the U.S. that focuses on entrepreneurship. Each year the Foundation awards grants to organizations in the entrepreneurship and education space. AlleyNYC, Regus, Venmo, AlleyWatch and Holstee are among the other sponsors of the New York event.

There is a $125 registration fee that is discounted to $99 for students who can produce a valid student ID. If you are ready to try launching a new venture in just 54 hours, sign up here.
