Fordham Business Professor Receives IBM Big Data and Analytics Award

IBM awarded Fordham Graduate School of Business Administration Professor R.P. Raghupathi the company’s Big Data and Analytics Award this past Wednesday, August 14. Raghupathi, who teaches Information Systems and Business Analytics at Fordham and also serves as the Director of Fordham’s Center for Digital Transformation, was one of 14 recipients selected for the award worldwide. IBM issues these awards, which come with a $10,000 cash prize, to encourage collaboration between academic researchers and IBM’s Research and Development professionals and to promote course development within academic institutions that focuses on areas central to IBM’s products and interests. Raghupathi’s recently developed applied practicum course elective on big data analytics successfully met the criteria.

Since joining the Fordham Graduate School of Business in 1998, Raghupathi has made a lasting impact on his students and the greater Fordham community. Under his directorship, the Center for Digital Transformation opened in 2011, allowing business students to examine the impact of digital technologies on individuals, businesses and society. His own research interests look at the relationship of business, technology, and progress, and Raghupathi actively pushes Fordham business students to find ways in which they can positively impact their local environment through their studies.

Fordham’s MBA students already benefited from Raghupathi’s instruction. Now, they have a direct connection to IBM through Raghupathi. His award ensures that IBM will invest in Fordham’s students through its IBM Academic Initiative, helping Fordham MBA and undergraduate business students acquire the technological skills they need to succeed in fields at the the complex, yet promising intersection of business and technology.
