New Scholarship to Benefit Indian Students at Booth
After a generous a $3 million gift from the Ramakrishnan family, The University of Chicago Booth School of Business has announced that the gift will be used to support a new scholarship that will be offered to students from India. The Guru and Anupama Ramakrishnan Endowed Scholarship Fund will provide tuition support annually to three incoming students from India who are enrolled in Chicago Booth’s Full-Time MBA Program.Ramakrishnan, Booth ’88, is the founder and Chief Investment Officer of Meru Capital, based in New York City, a company he founded in 2009. A native of Chennai, India, Ramakrishnan began his career at Morgan Stanley in 1988, where he worked until 2005, when he co-founded the hedge fund/private equity firm Old Lane. Currently New York City residents, Anupama and Guru return frequently to India, where they are involved in several philanthropic endeavors.
“It is our pleasure and privilege to support this world-class institution that has helped shape my intellectual and professional growth. To be able to find a way to give back, which also benefits aspiring students from India, makes it doubly rewarding,” Guru Ramakrishnan said. “We hope that talented students from all over India, with the availability of these scholarships will view Booth as their school of choice to attend.”
India represents the largest non-U.S. population in Chicago Booth’s full-time class.
Awards from the Guru and Anupama Ramakrishnan Scholarship will be available to qualified Indian students beginning this fall, when three first-year students will each be awarded $25,000 per year, totaling $50,000 each for the two-year program.
