Seton Hall University MBA Student Wins National Supply Management Scholarship

Stillman School of Business - Seton Hall University

Seton Hall University Stillman School of Business student Sean Rainford ’14 is one of 12 winners of the ISM-Capital One Conference Scholarships, after competing against more than 130 national applicants.

The recognition includes at $1,250 scholarship and the opportunity to attend the ISM-Capital One Conference in Las Vegas in May.

“I am very privileged, honored and humbled all at the same time,” Rainford said, “and I look forward to representing Seton Hall at the conference and to mingling with the best and brightest in supply management and procurement. I hope this award brings awareness on the national level to the quality of education at Stillman School and Seton Hall and helps both continue to rise in national prominence.”

In his essay entitled, “The Future of Supply Management,” Rainford noted that supply management and procurement will become an increasingly important strategic business unit that can “organically generate growth and increase profits.” In addition, Rainford predicts a greater reliance on technology in supply management, “freeing people to create value in the procurement stream in other performance improvement manners such as process redesign, streamlining workflows, and reducing turn-around times.”

This latest accolade for the 31-year-old New York native comes after a first place win in the 2013 Rhoda Isaacs Scholarship in Supply Chain Management competition, sponsored by the New York chapter of the Council for Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP).

Rainford’s selection also marks the second time in as many years that an MBA student at Seton Hall University’s Stillman School of Business has been awarded an ISM-Capital One Conference Scholarship. Last year’s Stillman winner was Wambui Gathu, who submitted an essay entitled “Emerging Technology and its Effects on Service Delivery in Africa.”
