New Leader of Marketing Dept. at Rutgers

Professor Ashwani Monga is the new leader of the marketing department at Rutgers Business School, Newark and New Brunswick. The marketing department has recently been separated from supply chain management after being combined five years earlier. Monga is leading the task of re-establishing the department.

At the University of South Carolina, Monga received several awards for his teaching, and his research on consumer behavior is widely recognized in the field of marketing. His work has appeared in leading academic publications, including the Journal of Consumer Research and the Journal of Consumer Psychology. He also sits on the editorial review board of several journals and serves as an associate editor at the Journal of Consumer Psychology.

Even as he sets the direction for how the department will grow and establish itself, Monga will continue teaching and working on research. He will teach consumer behavior to MBA marketing students.

The department’s history creates an opportunity to build a new brand. The department can distinguish itself with programs that play off the strengths of Rutgers, including the diversity of the Newark campus, the hub of pharmaceutical companies in New Jersey and the geographic proximity to New York City and the fashion industry.

Monga said the marketing department is working closely with Rutgers Business School Executive Education to build on the existing mini-MBA programs in digital and social media marketing, and courses related to pharmaceuticals, fashion and digital marketing continue to be incorporated into undergraduate- and graduate-level curriculum.
