Binghamton Ranked by US News & World Report

U.S. News & World Report has placed Binghamton University in its top 50 public universities for the 17th consecutive year. Binghamton was ranked in the national universities category, moving up several spots from last year to 88th overall. The ranking places Binghamton as the 38th best public nationally, up from 44th last year.

“National rankings, including from U.S. News, can provide a starting point for students and families as they are beginning their college search,” said Binghamton University President Harvey Stenger. “These rankings bring awareness of the quality and value we provide to students and that is good for Binghamton University.

“However, we are so much more than the rankings, and prospective students should look carefully at the many factors that go into selecting the best school for them beyond the categories on which these rankings are based,” Stenger said.

“Location, academic rigor, accessibility of faculty, student services, study-abroad and research opportunities as well as many other factors are key, and often not part of the methodology these publications use.”

“We have a commitment to grow, but to grow with quality,” said Executive Vice President and Provost Donald Nieman. “Many of these indicators, including the percentage of full-time faculty, graduation rate and smaller class sizes demonstrate that we are growing with quality.”

Binghamton has also been ranked by several other publications. The Princeton Review ranked Binghamton the 10th best value for public universities nationwide this year and the Fiske Guide to Colleges 2014 also called Binghamton University a “best buy,” noting that Binghamton has one of the highest four-year graduation rates for public universities. Binghamton was also ranked well by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance, placing no. 4 in the nation as a value for out-of-state students and no. 15 overall.
