NYC Metro Schools Land in Financial Times Top 20

The Financial Times Global MBA Ranking 2016 puts two NYC metro schools in the top 20.

Columbia Business School is No. 6 on the list, with Stern School of Business-New York University coming in at No. 19.

For the ranking, the Financial Times looked at 157 accredited MBA programs around the world that are at least 4 years old. The schools are ranked based on alumni salaries three years after graduation; increase in income for alumni; career success for alumni; alumni recommendations; value for money; diversity of staff, students and board members, the MBA’s international reach; number of faculty doctorates; number of PhD graduates in the past three years; and faculty research and publications. Information was collected from the schools themselves and from 9,800 alumni who completed the schools’ full-time MBA programs in 2012.

Both schools fared well in the salary increase category. For Columbia University MBAs, it was 99 percent, and for Stern School alumni, it was 97 percent. Salary criteria were weighted heavily in the Financial Times ranking. The Stern School ranked No. 9 for placement success rate, defined by the ranking’s methodology as the “effectiveness of the school careers service in supporting student recruitment, as rated by their alumni.” Columbia was No. 8 in the alumni recommendation category and No. 17 for placement success rate.

The overall No. 1 in the rankings is Insead, with campuses in France and Singapore. The other schools in the top 5 were Harvard Business School, London Business School, The Wharton School-University of Pennsylvania and Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
