Notre Dame Ethics Week Coming to Mendoza Next Week

Notre Dame Mendoza School of Business

The Mendoza College of Business and the Notre Dame Deloitte Center for Ethical Leadership are set to bring the Notre Dame business community one of it’s favorite events of the year: Notre Dame Ethics Week. The event, which is free and open to the public, takes place every February, and brings in experts from a diverse array of industries to explore current ethics issues.

What’s set for this year’s Ethics Week? Folks in attendance, over the course of February 8-11, will explore a range of issues that shook the business world and larger economy in recent years, from data breaches and accounting scandals, to the meltdown of the financial industry in 2008. Finance expert Susan Ochs, founder of the Better Banking Institute, will serve as the keynote speaker. Margin Call, a highly rated 2011 movie about the collapse of a Wall Street investment bank, will also be screened.

Also on the schedule at Ethics Week is:

  • Monday, Feb. 8, 12:30-1:30 p.m.: John D’Arcy, Associate Professor, Alfred Lerner College of Business & Economics, University of Delaware, “Data Breach: Failures and Follow-ups”
  • Tuesday, Feb. 9, 12:30-1:30 p.m.: Larry Katzen, Former Partner at Arthur Andersen & Author of And You Thought Accountants Were Boring, “The Collapse of Arthur Andersen: So Who Was Really at Fault?”
  • Wednesday, Feb. 10, 4:30-5:30 p.m.: Susan Ochs, Senior Fellow and Founder, Better Banking Project, New America Foundation, “Managing Mindsets: The Key to Better Corporate Behavior”
  • Thursday, Feb. 11, 7:00- 9:00 p.m.: Margin Call, Jordan Auditorium, Mendoza College of Business. Followed by a panel Q&A session, featuring Mendoza faculty members Walt Clements and Jessica McManus Warnell, as well as Kevin Frost, a management consulting major.

Notre Dame Ethics Week was established 19 years ago to encourage the discussion of ethical matters in business classes. The event continues the legacy of John Houck, a Notre Dame management professor who authored numerous works on business ethics, including “Is the Good Corporation Dead?”, who died in 1996.
