Misty Johanson Steps in as Interim Dean of the DePaul Driehaus College of Business

Misty Johanson is just settling into her new job, entering a new phase in her career by stepping in as the interim Dean of the Driehaus College of Business and Kellstadt Graduate School of Business. She formally started the role on July 1.

As we reported back in February, Johanson replaced Ray Whittington as Dean. Whittington announced that he will step down at the end of the 2016-17 academic year and return to his prior role as the director of the School of Accountancy & Management Information Systems.

“There is nothing that drives me more than preparing highly qualified students to succeed in a wide array of business and management fields,” Johanson said in February. “As Interim Dean, I look forward to a continued collaboration with faculty and staff within the college, as well as our many industry partners in Chicago.”

Johanson joined DePaul faculty in 2009 to establish the School of Hospitality Leadership, becoming the school director in 2014. She also teaches hospitality leadership classes. She is the first woman to serve in the role as Dean for DePaul’s business college.

She recently sat down with Robin Florzak of DePaul University for a Q&A. In it, Johanson discusses her agenda for the 2017-18 academic year and why she’s excited about her new job.

Johanson commented on what she has planned for graduate students, saying:

“At the graduate level, the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business and DePaul’s Corporate and Employer Outreach, or CEO initiative, continue to build educational partnerships with Chicago area companies. This autumn, Kellstadt will offer its MBA cohort program onsite at Bosch and Northern Trust, adding to existing onsite MBA programs at MB Financial, Fifth-Third Bank, Walgreens and CDW.”
