Columbia Awards Annual Alumni Medals

Three Columbia Business School graduates have received the 2014 Columbia University Alumni Medals. Mitch Freinberg, ’77, Philippa Feldman Portnoy, ’90, and Sabin Streeter, ’67, have all been honored for their distinguished service of 10 years or more to Columbia. Founded in 1933, alumni medals are given to those known to serve all that is Columbia. This includes the school itself, alumni associations, regional Columbia clubs and university-wide initiatives.

Mitch Freinberg is director of Noventus Partners, a London-based corporate finance advisory firm catering to small and medium-sized businesses. He is a longtime member of Columbia University’s Alumni Representative Committee (ARC), serving as the current chair of the London chapter. Colombia runs in Freinberg’s blood and comes from a family of Columbia alumni including his father who earned a BS from the Business School in 1943.

Philippa Feldam Portnoy, a former vice president of Citibank, is a member of the Barnard and Columbia Alumni Association boards. Portnoy was co-captain of the University’s women’s tennis team while studying at the university and has a loyal supporter of he school’s athletics since. In 2009, Portnoy was named among the 25 Most Influential Alumnae in the history of the Columbia/Barnard Athletic Consortium/women’s athletics.

Sabin Streeter has served as an executive in residence at the School since 1997 and is a member of the School’s Board of Overseers. He has also served as a guest lecturer and adjunct professor at the School, teaching investment banking in the late 1970s and creating an entrepreneurial finance seminar in 1993. Streeter is a board member of the Eugene M. Lang Entrepreneurial Initiative Fund, through which he mentors aspiring entrepreneurs.

This year’s medalists were recognized during University Commencement on May 21—the Business School saw the highest number of graduates honored among any school within the University.
