McCombs School of Business – University of Texas at Austin

History

The McCombs School of Business was founded in 1922 at the University of Texas at Austin. Earlier known as the School of Business Administration, it was merged with the Graduate School of Business in the year 2000. McCombs is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB) and offers students everything from undergraduate to terminal degrees.

Location(s)

The UT Austin boasts a massive 431 acre campus centrally located in the city of Austin. McCombs School of Business also offers MBAs on other UT campuses in Dallas and Houston. There are also international offerings in Mexico City.

The Austin campus is located less than 10 miles away from the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

Facilities

McCombs is located in a three-building complex at 21st and Speedway streets. This complex, called The George Kozmetsky Center for Business Education, is the heart of McCombs.

The first building in this complex is the College of Business Administration Building. This building opened in 1962 and currently houses the undergraduate programs as well as the Bureau of Business Research.

The second building is the rhombus-shaped Graduate School of Business Building. This is the current home of the graduate MBA programs.

The third and newest building in the complex is the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center. It was opened in 2008 and is the location of the Executive MBA program and offers many amenities to students and visiting executives. This building offers classroom space, breakout rooms, conference halls and even three restaurants and a hotel.

McCombs recently built a new home for its graduate programs. Construction began in the fall of 2014 and was completed in the summer of 2017. The new building, called Robert B. Rowling Hall­–or just Rowling Hall–is 347,000 sq. ft. of traditional, tiered classrooms as well as a multitude of adaptive spaces for meetings, brainstorming, and invention.

Faculty

McCombs has 204 full-time equivalent faculty members who are consistently ranked among the top 10 national faculties. They teach subjects covering six departments: accounting; finance; management; marketing; business, government, and society; and information, risk & operations management (IROM). Aside from their impressive educational background they also boast having real-world business expertise to bring into the classrooms.

Student Body

There are 12,930 total enrolled students in the McCombs School of Business, with 6,450 Business Foundation students, 4,666 undergraduates, 1,725 students in masters programs, and 89 in doctoral programs.

MBA Degree Offerings

The McCombs School of Business offers six different MBA programs. There is a traditional two-year, full-time MBA degree and the Texas Executive MBA, which can be completed at the main campus in Austin. McCombs also offers a part-time Texas Evening MBA on the main campus as well as at two other University of Texas locations: Dallas/Fort Worth or Houston. Finally they offer a dual-degree executive MBA program in Mexico City awarding an MBA from The University of Texas at Austin and a Master’s of Administration from Tecnológico de Monterrey – Campus Santa Fe.

Meet Hildebrand Scholar Cole Richards

Meet Cole Richards, a member of the inaugural class of Hildebrand MBA Scholars at Texas McCombs. A Memphis, Tennessee native, Cole spent nearly six years in fund finance at Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation before enrolling in the Full-Time MBA at the University of Texas at Austin's McCombs School of Business. Cole's path into banking was built on something simple: communication. He made over 130 phone calls to break into finance in New York City and later put that same skill to work coaching a class of summer analysts, turning a standard internship into a two-way mentorship built on structure, empathy, and feedback. That experience shaped how he thinks about leadership today: not about having all the answers, but about communicating clearly enough that others feel confident moving forward. Meet Hildebrand Scholar Daniela Kolkebeck

Meet Daniela "Dani" Kolkebeck, a Hildebrand MBA Scholar in the inaugural cohort at Texas McCombs. Raised in San Antonio, Texas, Dani spent four years in mergers and acquisitions at Kaufman Hall in Chicago before starting the Full-Time MBA at the University of Texas at Austin's McCombs School of Business. Dani describes herself as a servant leader, and she's put that philosophy into practice more than once. At Kaufman Hall, she noticed a gap in Hispanic and Latino representation at her firm and set out to fix it, chartering an employee resource group from scratch despite her own doubts about whether she was "the right person" to lead it. The group launched with over 20 members and has since led cultural programming that's become a fixture at the firm.
