Whitman School of Management – Syracuse University

School Overview

The Whitman School at Syracuse University, formally the College of Business Administration, was established in 1919. In 1920, it was only the sixteenth collegiate business school in the nation to be accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

Additional historical dates:

  • 1948: Launched Syracuse University’s MBA program
  • 1952: Established the Army Comptrollership Program
  • 1965: Created a doctoral program at Whitman School
  • 1977: Recognized as a leader in education innovation by offering a distance MBA

The Whitman School of Management is located on Syracuse University’s campus in the heart of Central New York. The University maintains learning centers in New York City, Washington D.C. and Los Angeles, and also operates overseas centers in Central Europe; Florence, Italy; London, England; Madrid, Spain; Santiago, Chile and Strasbourg, France.

The nearest airport, Syracuse Hancock International Airport, is conveniently located less than 10 miles from campus.

Facilities

The centerpiece of the Whitman School is a 160,000-square-foot student-focused facility that has been designed from the ground up to deliver nationally prominent programs within walls that foster collegiality and community. The Whitman School building includes 22 classrooms, a 200-seat auditorium, 40 team meeting rooms for graduate and undergraduate students, a three-story, 4,000-square-foot grand hall, computer clusters and a café. The building has many sustainable, environmentally conscious features.

The Whitman School building contains many spaces for innovative research and collaboration.

·         Ballentine Investment Institute: geared toward preparing students for working on Wall Street

·         Kuhn Real Estate Center: Offers training programs for real estate professionals

·         Couri Hatchery: Home to the Entrepreneurship & Emerging Enterprises Department

·         Integrated space for the school’s endowed research centers and institutes

Faculty

The Whitman School employs nearly 100 faculty members for its graduate, undergraduate and Ph.D. programs, with specialties in accounting, business analytics, entrepreneurship, finance, management, marketing, retail, real estate and supply chain management.

Student Body

There are approximately 1,788 undergraduate students, 400 graduate students and 35 Ph.D. students enrolled in the Whitman School. The most recent Whitman School MBA class enrolled with an average GMAT score of 626 and an average undergraduate GPA of 3.25.

Graduate Degree Offerings

The Whitman School MBA is offered in a full-time, two-year, on-campus format and they also offer six specialized master’s programs. The master’s degrees include professional accounting, business analytics, entrepreneurship & emerging enterprises, finance, marketing and supply chain management.

Whitman's 100 Celebration

On Sept. 16, 2019, the Martin J. Whitman School of Management kicked off its 100th Anniversary with a celebration in Flaum Grand Hall. The official unveiling of our core values – integrity, inclusion, collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
