Rotman School of Management Ranked #1 MBA in Canada

When Canadian Business completed their first comprehensive reputational survey of MBA programs in Canada, it was no surprise that the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto was ranked as the No. 1 MBA in Canada. The Stephen J.R. Smith School of Business at Queen’s University and the Ivey Business School at Western University ranked a close second and third, respectively.

The survey, conducted with the help of Rogers Consumer Insights, polled approximately 1,000 MBA students, parents, graduates, HR professionals, and corporate recruiters about 41 different Canadian institutions that offer MBA programs. The purpose of the survey was to gather impressions on Canada’s MBA schools. The comprehensive reputation score was configured based on recognition, perception of quality, and other metrics.

While a survey and ranking based on reputation may seem less helpful than more traditional rankings. According to the survey results, 87% of respondents said, “having an MBA from a top branded program has great value.” Other key insights from the survey:

  • MBA graduates say that they have seen an average income increase of 24% as a direct result of obtaining their MBA degree.
  • 38% of respondents believe that the MBA degree is maintaining its value.
  • 34% of those surveyed felt that Canadian MBA programs were better than internationally available MBA programs.

For Rotman, the top reputational ranking for their MBA program is just the tip of their success. The Financial Times also ranked Rotman as Canada’s #1 Business school, and they were ranked #4 for their Faculty Research & PhD Program, and in the top 10 for Finance. Beyond their awards, Rotman offers a variety of MBA program options including a full-time program, morning and evening MBA, one-year Executive MBA, joint MBA, and Omnium Global Executive MBA.

And while Rotman offers the most expensive MBA in Canada, costing approximately $95,100, its cost is well offset by its prestige. Survey respondents called Rotman a “world-renowned institution with international connections,” and as a program that should be considered for its “professors, learning environment, and knowledge acquired.” To see the Top 10 institutions featured on Canadian Business’s list, click here.
